Gynecomastia Surgery

Gynecomastia surgery is a medical procedure used to treat the condition of enlarged male breasts, also known as gynecomastia. The goal of the surgery is to:

  • Remove the glandular tissue and/or fat excess
  • Remove any excess skin
  • Restore the natural contour of the chest area

To achieve this a variety of surgical methods might be employed. Some patients need only gland excision, others need liposuction only, and some need both. In some cases patients also need skin excision or skin tightening to achieve their desired results.

Step 1: Anaesthesia

To prepare the patient for surgery we inject local anaesthetic using the tumescent solution. This firms up the area we want to work on and plays a key role in reducing bleeding during the procedure.

We prefer using local anaesthetic because it's safer, easier and reduces downtime for the patient. It can take a couple of hours longer to recover from a general anaesthetic, whereas with local anaesthetic you can get up straight after the procedure. We can also talk to the patient and let them know what is happening. However, the patient can’t actually see what’s happening, because they’re covered – as protection and we find that this tends to reduce patient anxiety.

Step 2: Gland Excision and/or Liposuction

During the procedure, we make a small incision around the nipple and performs liposuction, excision, or both.

EXCISION: This technique is used if we need to remove the enlarged glandular tissue or remove the excess skin.

LIPOSUCTION: During the procedure, we vacuum the fat out of the breast to reduce the size. Dr Nurein uses VASER liposuction, which is the gold standard in the liposuction industry and a safer alternative to traditional liposuction.

In same caes, further skin tightening and body sculpting is needed. Dr Nurein uses BodyTite skin tightening to enhance the results of our gynecomastia surgery patients. This can be used with gynecomastia gland removal, gynecomastia liposuction or both.

Step 3: Stitches and Compression Vest

Once we are satisfied that we have removed the gland tissue and achieved the right shape, the skin is closed up with small stitches. We do a quick safety check of the patient, then the procedure is over.

We cover the chest area and fit a compresion vest for enahnced results, whilst the patient is briefed on afercare instructions and support available.

You should be able to go home straight away once all of this is clear.

We will follow up with a call and consultation to see if your recovery is going according to plan.
